Our Purpose at CFP: (1) to prepare engaged, interdisciplinary change-makers with rigorous academic and practice skills for peacemaking and development in domestic and international contexts; (2) to produce cutting edge, policy-relevant research on conflict, peace, and development; (3) to enact peacebuilding, conflict management, and development programming and practice (4) to inspire peace and promote positive change.   • Organization Description:

    The Children and Family Programs (CFP) at Kennesaw State University is a prevention, intervention, and treatment center where community members receive state-of-the-art evidence based treatments for childhood disorders. This includes the most widely diagnosed childhood disorder in the country: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. In addition, the CFP offers inservices, treatment, and prevention services to parents and teachers working with children with other behaviors that put them at risk for behavioral, social, and academic failure. These include children diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (HFASD).

Parents meet individually or in groups to learn behavior management techniques and solve problems with an expert in the field, Dr. Garefino, who has been training parents since 2002. With over 15 years of experience and children of her own, she has the qualifications and experience to impart skills and strategies needed to deal with challenging situations that arise during parenting. The skills and strategies learned help parents deepen relationships and promote positive developmental changes in their children’s lives. Please visit our website at childrenandfamilyprograms.org.

During Skill Building: Academic & Relational Success, children participate in STEAM themed games, art projects, life skills, and recreational sport activities while learning academic and relational success skills through evidence-based curricula. It is open to 5 to 12-year‐olds who struggle academically, socially, and/or behaviorally, including those diagnosed with Attention Deficit /Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), and High Function Autism Spectrum Disorder (HFASD). The program focuses on developing skills to promote positive relationships using communication, participation, cooperation, and validation. It will meet Mondays at 3:30, for eight weeks, at Logan Farm Park in Acworth beginning 3/11/19. Cost is $360. For more information please contact Dr. Garefino at agarefin@kennesaw.edu

The Skill Building: Foundational Framework for a Healthy Community is dedicated to building a positive classroom community by creating a foundational framework for implementing social skills and positive behavioral intervention facilitating a growth mindset.
