Mission

The Center for Empowerment and Development (CED), Inc., founded in 2008 by John Bailey, Pastor of Gospel Nation Christian Fellowship, provides an extended continuum of educational, youth development and leadership opportunities to high-potential, under served youth and students throughout areas north and west of metropolitan Atlanta area. Since its founding, CED has continually refined its service models to deliver curricula, activities, and services capable of supporting and guiding motivated youth as they progress through the CED programs. CED became a certified nonprofit foundation in 2015. The Center also provides services (i.e. food pantry, clothing, etc.) to the homeless population of the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan area. One of CED's mission aims to change the lives of the under served community beginning in elementary school and continuing through college and beyond through an empowerment and development approach that includes rigorous year-round enrichment, social and cultural exposure as well as constant individual attention as needed to aid in growth and sustainability. CED’s primary goal is to assist students from educationally and/or economically disadvantaged communities in developing and cultivating the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency required of tomorrow’s leaders. These activities are carefully selected from the best practices, field innovation, and integrated within our program design with the sole purpose in mind of preparing children to complete their undergraduate education with a clear vision for themselves, their careers and future study opportunities. CED Program activities include but are not limited to: Academic and social enrichment and accelerated opportunities for participants Preparation of participants for specialized, selective, screened, audition, or parochial high schools Project-based experiential learning, peer learning, and cooperative learning for participants Cultivation of leadership skills, including goal setting, problem-solving and communication skills for participants College preparation: developing college profiles, PSAT/SAT preparation, college research and tours, career exposure, developing networking skills and internship planning and placement for participants.
