No other community-based organization in Cobb County has the mission of increasing the graduation rates in our schools. Communities In Schools of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC) works with children and families from birth through the completion of the 12th grade. CISMCC works predominately in Title 1 schools where the majority of the school population is considered low income and qualify to receive free or reduced lunch. Children and families with needs are served by guiding the individuals to the community resources that are able to assist them. The majority of the students served by CISMCC are minority students, struggling to complete high school. CISMCC serves students from every area of the county through the Performance Learning Centers (PLCs) which are for students who are not succeeding in a traditional school setting. The program includes case management, tutoring, mentoring, early learning and Reality U (financial literacy).

CIS of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County provides an impactful 75-minute Financial Literacy program for 8-10th graders. Reality U takes a student’s current GPA and propels them to their 26-year old life. Students are given their career and earning potential based upon their GPA and are then left to navigate Childcare, Housing, Transportation, Insurance, Shopping and the many other issues we face as adults. Students are given different life situations like married, divorced, bad credit scores or even lots of children. This is a fun and impactful program providing students with a realistic “ah-ha” moment that academic achievement yields fiscal health and wealth.
