  • Organization Description:

While agencies focused on these vulnerable populations are doing great work, most focus on the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and job training. SNGA seeks to “fill in the cracks” by meeting other unmet, but important, needs. It is in these simple acts—bringing a tent to a person living in the woods, or providing birthday gifts to a homeless child—that we help connect people with the services that can improve their lives.

Simple Household Needs: Provides people emerging from homelessness with furniture, beds and other items they need to turn a new house or apartment into a “home.” We also give cleaning kits (those supplies are not covered by food stamps) to these clients. My Birthday Matters: Through school social workers and shelter staff, we obtain wish lists from homeless kids and then provide them with birthday gifts and other useful items. Shoe Them Love: New shoes so that disadvantaged children no longer have to wear only hand-me-downs. We collect $25 gift cards or new shoes. The kids are so excited that they even keep the box! Spirit of Christmas: “Fills in the gaps” by helping families in Cobb County who were unable to register for other local Christmas programs such as the MUST Toy Shop, Cobb Christmas and Toys for Tots. Comfort Kits: Duffel bags packed with full-sized toiletries and other items for residents at local homeless shelters, who often arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs. Simply Sheltered: Tents, sleeping bags, tarps, candles and other essential items to help people experiencing homelessness be more comfortable. Uniforms for Excellence: Helps Cobb County schoolchildren “dress for success” by providing them with required school uniforms their families struggle to afford. Donors provide gently used khakis, skirts and polo shirts that meet the requirements of individual schools. Alternately, they fund the purchase of brand-new uniforms.

Simple Needs GA needs volunteers - especially those with pickup trucks - to help load, pick up and deliver furniture to our Cobb County clients. Saturdays only. We also frequently rent a larger truck and need help with driving, loading/unloading and delivering. Valid driver's license required. Must be 18. https://simpleneedsgablog.com/donate/volunteer/
