We are committed to promoting opportunities for all people with developmental disabilities by providing full time and weekend residential opportunities, an occupational shredding program, and workshops on Medicaid waivers, SSI, and guardianship. We serve as the central resource for assistance on all social programs related to the developmentally disabled.

Special Needs Cobb, formerly Right in the Community has been developing, finding, and supporting family-focused services and programs that meet the real needs of the developmentally disabled citizens in the Cobb County community for over 60 years, including: affordable and accessible group housing; community-centered respite care; caregiver workshops and assistance; and finding and providing job opportunities.

Due to the special requirements for this population, the current flooring presents both a health and a safety issue. Replacing the current flooring with luxury vinyl planks is a long-term, sustainable solution to this problem. We are in need of donations of Aqua Guard, 12MM, Coco colored flooring with Sentinel Eco Underlayment and Quarter Round for 12 of our 24 homes.

Special Needs Cobb is Cobb County's Developmental Disabilities Resource since 1956. We operate 22 Group Homes and 1 Respite House for special needs individuals. This grant will fund emergency daily or weekly respite care for the developmentally delayed. Examples of emergency needs for respite care include necessary travel by the primary caregiver(s) due to a family illness or death, or even the unexpected death of the caregiver without a succession residential plan. We currently average 1 request per week. Our increased Hispanic population has also resulted in an increased need for program literature, and there is also a general need for funding for birthday and holiday gifts for the 13 orphans in our group homes.

We currently operating 22 Group Homes (permanent homes for over 90 special needs individuals) and the only facility-based Respite House in Cobb County. We need help making the homes hospitable and welcoming to our special needs clients! Adopt one of our group homes and help us fill the home needs with colorful flowers, landscaping including shrubbery, pine straw, patio furniture and accessories, and last but not least, pressure washing of the home's exterior!
Special Needs Cobb, Cobb's oldest non-profit geared to special needs, has a wonderful group project available for you! Choose an exterior painting project from one of our 122 1-story group homes that are in need of painting. We can supply the paint, or we can provide you with the paint specifications. Help make a home cheerful and bright for these residents!
