Populations Victims of Abuse
All Programs
We can provide immediate shelter for all victims of domestic violence and their children at no cost. Client-centered case management services are provided. Advocates will assist you with safety planning and inform you of your options going forward.
Longer-term housing is available for qualified clients. The focus is on economic empowerment to move clients toward independence and self-sufficiency.
We have Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They provide free medical forensic examinations for victims of sexual assault ages 13 years and older. Exams may be performed in our private facility by registered nurses who are trained in advanced assessment and forensic techniques. They provide compassionate care that includes treatment for injuries as well as preventative treatments for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and pregnancy. These services are available at no cost and may not require you to report your sexual assault. However, the SANE nurses will gather forensic evidence and conduct an exam, which will aid in an investigation if you choose to go forward with that option in the future. liveSAFE Resources advocates will accompany you to medical, legal appointments and other services as needed, as well as discuss options and victim rights.
The Elder Abuse Program serves those aged 50+ who have experienced abuse by a partner, spouse, adult child, grandchild, or caretaker. This program recognizes the unique challenges older victims may face when trying to find safety. The Elder Abuse Advocate assists clients by providing case management, access to safe housing and other resources, accompaniment to medical and legal appointments, and in some cases, help with financial assistance.
We offer free counseling services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and their family members, regardless of whether the event(s) took place recently or in the past. Our counseling program engages licensed counselors to help you or your loved ones move through crisis toward healing. We offer one-on-one and group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy and child play therapy. Services are also available in Spanish.
Our legal advocacy program provides our clients with information concerning victim rights, filing a Temporary Protective Order (TPO) and accompaniment to TPO-related court proceedings. Our legal advocacy office is located in the Cobb County Courthouse and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist victims of family violence and stalking in obtaining TPOs. The TPO office sees an average of 60 – 80 individuals per week seeking court assistance. A TPO is a legal document issued by the court to help victims obtain protection from persons abusing or stalking them. This order will generally state that one person is prohibited from having contact with another person and may even remove or restrict someone from a certain place or residence.
The crisis hotline will remain in operation and is manned 24/7. Please call 770-427-3390 for support.
