All Programs
McKenna Farms provides Physical, Occupational, and Speech Theray for children with special needs/disabilities. Our therapy is offered in multiple settings: clinical, aquatic, and with the use of our equine partners in hippotherapy.
Our Horses Helping Heroes program specifically addresses the rehabilitative needs of service men and women recovering from injuries sustained in the line of duty, such as traumatic brain injuries, amputation, anxiety, and PTSD. By learning the langauge of horses and how horses simplify the problem-solving process, veterans have the opportunity to learn the art of relationships, goal setting, creative thiking, and decision making. The specific objectives of the sessions vary based on each participant's individual needs. We have opportunities for individual and group lessons where veterans will learn and develop horsemanship and riding skills. Active and retired service members may also choose to be involved in caring for our therapy horses as volunteers.
Therapeutic Riding is an exciting recreational therapy that combines the positive movement of the horse with a rider’s ability to take control. It is a highly sought after sport for riders with a disability that prevents them from having a natural walking gait, for on the horse you can’t tell which rider is the disabled one, we are all equal. However, Therapeutic Riding is also beneficial to many disabilities; cognitive, physical, sensory, or just self-esteem! McKenna Farms encourages riders towards independence. Most riders will learn to tack up their own horse as well as walk, trot and canter without the use of a leader or side walker. Each lesson plan is tailored to the individual rider and their set goals and objectives. McKenna Farms also has an equestrian team that competes in the Special Olympics Georgia State Horse Show each year.

McKenna Farms Therapy Services Recurring Volunteers
Volunteers are a crucial part of McKenna Farms. There are numerous ways for someone to become involved within our organization. Helping in hippotherapy and therapeutic riding sessions by leading the horse or side walking is fun and just one of the many ways a volunteer can help. Our volunteers also give their time by fundraising, horse care, barn work, landscaping, and farm maintenance to name a few. In addition, we have events throughout the year that would not happen without the help of volunteers. Share your talents and come join us at the farm!
