COVID-19 Safety Kits for Community Education Efforts

We are seeking immediate funding sources to provide COVID-19 Safety Kits to 100,000 individuals throughout our communities, addressing significant health disparities. These kits will include a face mask, instructions on making homemade face masks, hand sanitizer, resource lists/links for financial and food assistance, and culturally sensitive content on physical distancing and hand washing. Our intent is to partner with the following local agencies and existing partners to distribute these kits: local school districts, Atlanta Regional Commission’s elderly food security program, Hosea Helps, Meals on Wheels, and Wellstar’s existing congregational nurse network. The financial need for this program to support 100,000 people will be a cost of $400,000 (avg. $4/kit). To give to the Wellstar COVID-19 Relief Fund online, visit wellstar.org/covid19relief

Food Support for Team Members at Home - Paper goods/non-perishable foods or monetary donations

We identified a need to further extend that initiative to support our team members at home. This has been a trying economic time, and the impacts have been felt within some of their families. Therefore, Wellstar leadership created food pantries at each facility to allow team members a chance to “shop” for essentials after their shifts. We appreciate support of this initiative in the form of paper goods/non-perishable foods or monetary donations o the Wellstar Foundation to offset the cost for our team members, and donations may be directed to individual Wellstar hospitals. This is a new program for our COVID-19 response, and we have begun to see corporate and in-kind donations in some service areas. We have just begun to share this need with the community. We are pursuing these food pantries at each of our 11 Wellstar hospitals, reaching many of our 25,000 team members across the system. Wellstar’s Team Member Emergency Assistance Fund

Through charitable contributions to the WellStar Foundation, the Team Member Emergency Assistance Fund aims to financially assist WellStar Team Members who have experienced an unforeseen crisis in their life. The fund is administered by The Center for Family Resources (CFR), where CFR social workers manage the interview and needs assessment process for our Team Members. While this fund has been in place for many years, the economic impact of COVID-19 to our communities has hit the homes of many of our team members’ families as well. We have a local foundation (My Friends and Me Foundation) currently matching gifts made to the Team Member Emergency Assistance Fund, up to $5,000. The fund averages raising $200K annually and many Wellstar team members are regular contributors. We have just opened the fund to the public and have already seen multiple community donations coming in alongside the matching gift program. Wellstar has 25,000 team members and any can apply for funding in times of crisis. However, all team members are capped at $5,000 in support to maintain equitable distribution. Only Wellstar team members are allowed to apply and must go through an assessment with Center for Family Resources to identify the crisis and apply appropriate funding. The fund is set up to directly pay bills for the team member (i.e. rent/utilities/medical bills). Being partnered to CFR allows for a deeper dive into the family dynamic/situation and provide additional community support resources as needed.
