Program
Home Fire Campaign
By far the largest disaster threat is home fires. Every day, on average seven people die in a home fire. Before today is over, Red Cross Volunteers will help 40 people in Georgia recover from a home fire, one-half of them will be children. In order to alleviate the needless suffering from a home fire, the American Red Cross implemented the Home Fire Campaign, aimed at reducing home fire death and injury by 25%. The Home Fire campaign addresses the problem in three program areas: 1) Installing smoke alarms in vulnerable, at-risk communities impacted by a home fire where death or injury has occurred; 2) Educating children about home fires through the Pillowcase project; 3) Teaching people to take action to save themselves, their families and their neighbors in the event of a fire.
